The robot put another bolt in the piece of steel.
The guys at the plan called him Auto-man. He was exacting. He was programmed to get the job done. No one had to worry about him getting distracted. All he saw was the motions he’d been designed to fulfill. He bolted steel day after day. He didn’t have the equipment to care. He didn’t pay attention to anything other than the piece of steel. His designer knew he didn’t need a heart or vision .
Humans had been created by a different factory, than he had been. They’d been designed to improvise, he was created for mindless repetition. They could feel and they paid attention to everything. As far as he was concerned, he’d been blessed by design. His life was simple without emotions or any of that paying attention or thinking stuff.
The good thing was, those humans couldn’t do what he did.
Some had even died trying to be Auto-man, like him.
Silly humans. Didn’t they know they’d been designed with different equipment? Didn’t they realize they were born to pay attention, to use that thing they called a heart, to do all the things he could not do? Didn’t they know they were designed for so much more -than going through the motions?
