A five year old is an unabashed attention monger. And rightly so. Children were born to be lathered with attention. A parents undivided, loving attention helps a child to know their worth, preciousness and helps develop the self and confidence. Receiving is the job description of every child.
But what about 30, 40 and 60 year old attention mongers? What about adults who demand attention, develop rules for everyone and throw tantrums when people don’t pay enough attention, show up perfectly or do things as they require?
Could it be that some of us never received the attention we needed to confirm our worth?
Could it be that some of us are still children- refusing to grow up?
Could it be we ALL need a little more laughter …about now?
To give attention is better than to receive it.. .You and I are born attention dispensers.
Attention communicates love. If you find yourself demanding and setting rules for those in your life I need to tell you- it will never work. YOU can’t feel what YOU aren’t willing to give. Come close and let me wrap my arms around you, let’s lay on the floor and laugh. Let me whisper God’s promise in your ear. He loves you. You are all his. You have always been as precious as these laughing children…
Unfortunately, you were raised by imperfect human beings who didn’t give you the unconditional loving attention you deserved…
Forget what happened, what your parents did or didn’t do. And stop demanding the rest of us fill that hole inside of you. It’s time to embrace your truth. You have always been a God miracle. You are as special as they come. Now, it’s time to give attention not worry about receiving it…
Because giving is why we you are here…It will lead you to love.
Perhaps today is as good as any to ask yourself a few honest questions; attention monger or attention dispenser?
Giver or Receiver?
What do you attend to?
What gets the best of your attention; precious people or inanimate objects, goals and jobs you hope will get you more attention and recognition?
What might you attend to if you knew you were worthy, loved and altogether already successful and wonderful?
Hmmmm…
